Welder Responsibilities

The successful applicant will complete welding, fabrication, repair, and metalworking duties in a fast-paced work environment.

Key responsibilities include reading welding blueprints, drawings, specifications, manuals, and welding process instructions. Workers will operate manual, semi-automatic, and fully automated welding equipment and inspect finished welds to ensure they meet required standards.

Additional duties include operating flame-cutting equipment, brakes, shears, and metal shaping machinery. The welder will also fit, braze, torch-straighten metal, determine material weldability, and operate hoisting and lifting equipment.

Other responsibilities include fabricating and repairing metal parts, operating pre-set brazing and soldering machines, maintaining welding equipment, adjusting machinery, and replacing defective components.

Welding Skills and Experience

Applicants should have 1 to less than 2 years of experience in the welding field and a secondary school graduation certificate.

Experience with the following welding methods is relevant:

  • Shielded Metal Arc Welding, SMAW
  • Gas Metal Arc Welding, GMAW
  • Flux Core Arc Welding, FCAW
  • MIG welding

Experience in custom fabrication and structural construction is also required for the position.

Required Certifications

Candidates should hold the following credentials:

  • First Aid Certificate
  • WHMIS Certificate
  • Welder Trade Red Seal Certificate
  • Fall Arrest Protection Training Course

A basic security clearance is also listed as part of the job requirements.

Transportation Requirements
